Skiing

Skiing lets us all get a thorough and vigorous exercise workout whilst enjoying the pleasures of high speeds, exquisite scenery and the exhilaration of fresh crisp air rushing through our lungs. With all the climate changes, there are few places left that let one ski during the summer, but Oregon's Mt. Hood is renowned.

Buried amongst the rugged Cascade Mountain range, just 50 miles away from Portland, the Timberline resort is a buzz with activity.

Timberline sits graciously on the mountain's southernmost side. It offers moderate level skiing with one lift reaching up some 8,500 feet above sea level into the soft, wet snow. Fortunately for skiing enthusiasts, young and old, the snowpack is heavier in the winter, making it less likely to disappear during the spring meltdown and disappear into nearby rivers.

In 2007, the facilities began an expansion to accommodate more summer skiers. A new lift is being built, which will give more people the chance to enjoy its delights from late morning to mid-afternoon. However, the lodge offers many more activities, fine dining, excellent accommodation and plenty of picturesque scenery. It is possible to combine all of them. Can you imagine cycling and skiing at the same resort on the same day? Sadly, most people on the west coast of North America have taken this very much for granted.
