Parkdale Community Information

ParkdaleParkdale is a beautiful community, the southernmost, and the highest in elevation in Hood River County Parkdale is a descriptive name rather accurately describes the community and its surroundings. The name was said to have been selected by Ralph Davies, in 1910, when the Parkdale post office was established. The southern terminus of the Mt Hood Railroad is located here. The Railroad is one of the very few lines in the US having a switchback enabling the train to raise from the gorge of the Hood River to the first valley level.

R.J. McIssac, from Iowa, arrived in the valley in 1902 and by 1910 had plans for a store to serve the growing population of orchardists. At the same time, David Eccles, president of the Oregon Lumber Company, was extending his Mt. Hood Railroad line from the company mill at Dee, southward toward the mountain. The train brought the first load of lumber for the new store, and the town of Parkdale was born.
